Kevin Bacon talks about his cousin Holly Near

It was a bright sunny day in lower Manhattan that we did an interview with Kevin Bacon.

He was thrilled to talk about his cousin Holly Near.

Holly is a singer, songwriter, teacher & activist. I’m sure we would totally get along :)

Special quotes from Holly:

Quotes

Why do we kill people who are killing people to show that killing people is wrong?

If you have the guts to keep making mistakes, your wisdom and intelligence leap forward with huge momentum.

The women's movement completely changed attitudes all over the world in ways we'll never be able to count.

YES, we would be fast friends!!

Tony Bennet & Diana Krall

This was a fun week promoting a new album with Tony Bennett & Diana Krall.

The title is “Love Is Here To Stay”…

All the songs are from the George Gershwin collection so you know everyone is a hit!

These two work so beautifully together and their love for one another shows even on the album.

I just love Old School, with all it’s class and meaning in every song.

Did you know that George Gershwin died at the tender age of 38! What a genius.

It was an honor as always to work with these two talented musicians.

Life is good :)

Nicki Minaj at The VMA's

Well, this was one show that will go down in history and it was no easy task.... but I love the adrenaline rush.

Just when you think you have seen it all... BAM!!!

The VMA's are on Sunday night, Saturday at 3:30pm Nicki's stylist wanted all 8 female dancers to have 25 inch pony tails with matching bangs. Ok, I'll make that happen... No problem!

Sunday (day of show) that afternoon Nicki brought in 4 new dancers from LA which were all Asian with blonde hair.. OK still made it happen!

When we finally get to the stage, wardrobe wants us to attach METAL head gear on the crown  of their heads.  We probably used 3000 bobby pins to secure those pieces on!  My fear was one would have flown off when they whipped their head around. Not one fell off!!!! Made it Happen!

When Nicki Minaj is on the performance list for an awards show, you know she’s going to deliver. The Queen rapper, whose new album just dropped Aug. 10, made quite a mark at the 2018 MTV Video Music Awards: she chose to stage her show-stopping performance at the Occulus.

Singing from downtown Manhattan’s Oculus, the transport hub and shopping center that opened in the World Trade Center district recently, the Queens rapper served up an energetic medley of songs from her album, opening with “Majesty” before shedding her elaborate pink cape to rap “Barbie Dreams” and one more track, dressed in golden armor.

Marillyn Hewson CEO of the YEAR 2018

I just love working for strong, smart powerful women and that is exactly who Marillyn Hewson is.

A woman Like Marillyn makes you stand a little bit taller.

If there was one executive determined not to let politics get in the way of business this year, it was Lockheed Martin CEO Marillyn Hewson. She deftly deflected a string of tweet attacks from President Trump—the Commander-in-Chief of Lockheed’s largest customer—by vowing to cut the cost of the company’s new F-35 fighter jets and to create 1,800 U.S. jobs. Hewson then reaped the benefits of Trump’s $110 billion arms deal with Saudi Arabia, securing contracts worth a quarter of that total. The company’s sales are on track to grow 7% in 2017. (Hewson also remained on Trump’s now-disbanded manufacturing council when many of her peers resigned this summer.) Lockheed stockholders, meanwhile, have been well rewarded, earning an 81% total return over the past three years and 28% so far in 2017.

Congratulations to a WOMAN making CEO in a mans world!

Tony Awards 2018

The Tony Awards are one of the shows I look forward to every year.

Our hosts Josh Groban and Sara Bareilles were absolutely AWESOME!

Theather actors are the best to work with as they are so professional and charming.  There is never drama on stage or backstage.  Everyone hits their marks and they are on time !

I've worked with so many of the actors the list would be too long but to just add a few of my favorites...

Tony Shalhoub , Bruce Springsteen , Robert DeNiro, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Chita Rivera, Katrina Lenk and Denzel Washington were the high light of my evening.  Denzel is ever so sweet and did I mention HANDSOME!

I worked with Josh Groban for press on the days leading up to the show.  Josh is quite the charmer :)... He told me he loved MY makeup!

Doing this show for almost 18 years now NEVER gets old.

I love when the Tonys come to town!

VH1 Trailblazers 2018

The fifth annual Trailblazer Honors celebrated activists and pioneers from diverse backgrounds to prove that while divided we fall, together we rise. The Cathedral of Saint John The Divine hosted the ceremony that broadened its focus within the LGBTQ community and beyond to shine a spotlight on the inspiring people that have changed our world.

Bebe Rexha opened the show with a choir rendition of her song, 'In The Name of Love,' that set the tone for the moving night ahead. Sara Ramirez and Padma Lakshmi spoked from personal experiences about the importance of the ACLU in honoring Executive Director Anthony Romero. Malcolm Jenkins reminded us of Sybrina Fulton and Tracy Martin's courage, who thanked those who have supported them after the death of their son, Trayvon Martin. Logan Browning, Barry Jenkins, Cheyenne Jackson and Billy Porter discussed the impact that James Baldwin has had on their lives before Jussie Smollett performed his song 'Freedom' as a tribute to the late author. Ryan Murphy was honored by Mj Rodriguez, Janet Mock and Dominique Jackson before discussing those who have inspired him to create representation for all groups.  Julia Roberts, Angela Bassett and more also thanked Murphy for what he has provided for them in their careers.

Everyday trailblazers Danica Roem, Opal Tometi, Joanne Smith, Cristina Jimenez, Charlie Craig and David Mullins were also honored for their important contributions to American politics and culture. Plus, RuPaul's Drag Race Season 10's Final Four Aquaria, Asia O'Hara, Eureka and Kameron Michaels made an appearance before Bebe Rexha returned to close the show with her hit song, 'Meant To Be.'

It was a night that reminded us to support all members of our community, and that we are all Trailblazers!

Interview for "Broadway to Vegas"

WHEN THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES RECOMMENDS YOU TO THE POPE MAKE-UP ARTIST BELINDA MOSS LOOKS GOOD

Make up artist Belinda Moss

It's not very often that a person's resume includes a President of the United State and a pope. The resume of veteran New York based make-up artist Belinda Moss contains just that. It also contains a list of celebrity names long enough to be turned into wallpaper.

While celebrities walk the red carpets and bask in the spotlight, make-up artists and hairstylists usually stay out of sight and out of print. Their semi-anonymity helps preserve the glamour of show business - or politics - which is a form of show business.

Moss has been using other people's faces as her canvas for over 20 years. In 2012 she did the make-up for the presidential candidates debating on television. Those debates can make or break a candidate's election bid. Sometimes it isn't what they say, but how they look. Remember the debate - the one with John F. Kennedy and Richard Nixon?

The lesson learned: Don't ever minimize the importance of lighting and make-up.

It's long been stated that one of the reasons JFK won the debate over Nixon was because of the lighting and Kennedy used a make-up artist while Nixon did not, causing him, on camera, to look tired and sweat.

For Moss' 2012 stint of painting, patting and powdering those taking part in the presidential debates, she not only needed makeup and brushes - Moss needed the proper clearances and security checks.

"President Obama suggested me to do the pope since I have done him and I already have clearance," Moss told Broadway To Vegas referring to the September 2015 visit of Pope Francis.

One man recommending a make-up artist to another man - a high profile version of 'who's your barber?'

If somebody clueless comments - "A president and a pope, that's a couple of references - got any others?" She does.

Tony Awards, Thanksgiving Day Parade, Elton John, Holiday Inn: The New Irving Berlin Musical - Live television special, Tony Bennett Celebrates 90: The Best Is Yet to Come TV Special documentary, Grammy Awards, The Sports Illustrated Special 2016, Michael Buble's Christmas Special on NBC, and on and on.

For instance, consider how she spent that last couple of weeks.

For over 11 years she's done the make up for Sir Paul McCartney, including a session on March 21, 2018. "I was showing Paul how to use Mad Hippie skin products and he loved the Amika hairspray. . . . Elizabeth Arden for Nancy," she posted referring to Paul's wife. "Then Meryl Streep arrives so I left some products with her," including the same one which had been provided to Lady McCartney with Moss quipping, "Don’t tell Nancy."

Last Sunday, April 1, the modern, edgy, gritty Jesus Christ Superstar Live! aired on NBC. That meant that for the two week prior to the air date none other than the famed, Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber was schlepping around New York doing promotional interviews. Following in his footsteps was Moss with her trusty makeup bag.

On March 28 she posted: "It was an honor to work side by side with Andrew for several weeks. He had Glenn Close with him talking about her play with him Sunset Boulevard. The next day it was all about John Legend!!!," was her excited comment about the star who played Jesus on Jesus Christ Superstar.

Promotional tours are necessary but can be tiring and sometimes you don't know what you'll experience.

Bad lighting can ruin the best of everything else.

What does she do if she takes her client into a set where she knows the lighting isn't up to par?

"For bad lighting I try kindly ask the lighting person to bring down their key light," she explained to Broadway To Vegas. "Being kind goes a long way. Most lighting people know me, so they know I’m only trying to give everyone what they want. “Keep the client happy”.

There are some universal skin care rules.

"My main concern either for a woman or man is healthy, clean skin!! I prep their face first with Vitamin C Serum. I love Mario Badescu," she explained, adding that she lets the product "soak in and start painting my canvas. I never have been big on a “beat” face so I’m very light handed and bring out a glow. The Vitamin C helps and a small about of highlighter on the top of your cheeks.

"For more mature skin I use Youth Oil from L'Occitane which makes an amazing glow," she continued. "Always wash your face and use a fine scrub to get all the grime from the day - Mario has a good one. Also your skin care and makeup go on so smooth. It's all about your skin. I baby everyone's because that is really what people see first."

It's long been said that how a woman applies make-up to her face when she was 30 is exactly how she'll apply it when she's 70 - a look which might not be the most flattering on the red carpet. Do celebrities tell Moss what they want, whether it's appropriate or not?

"Most celebrities let me do my thing," she answered. "I make their skin  amazing first; then the rest is what color lips. I usually ask what they are wearing and go from there. My style is not over done but always chic and classy, I let their eyes talk and not the makeup."

Advice for the ordinary person who doesn't have a make-up artist on call is: "always wash your makeup off at night and follow with more vitamin C and a nourishing night cream." Moss recommends "Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream at night and your skin will be luminous in the morning."

Sir Paul McCartney & Meryl Streep

In the middle of the 4th blizzard in March I made it to Paul McCartney's home for an interview that turned out to be the most memorable day that I've had in years.

As I was getting Paul ready for his interview I was helping him read lines and just being present to help, not that Paul needs any help with interviews as he's a wealth of knowledge about any subject.

The interview will air all over social media on the 50th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.'s death.  With so much going on in the world it was refreshing to hear words of peace and hope.  Paul spoke of his duet with Stevie Wonder "Ebony & Ivory".  Perfect choice!

As Paul was wrapping up his interview I turned to find Meryl Streep standing behind me. I think Paul was even a bit star struck.

Both Paul & Meryl nailed it in 2 takes ,  enough time for all of us to get home before the blizzard gained momentum.

Driving home in the storm I felt blessed in every way.  Life is so GRAND and I get to sit on the sidelines and watch it play out.

Stevie Wonder "Dream Still lives"

I'm so very proud of this piece that I did for Stevie Wonder. I did most of the artists in New York City, so I am not claiming I did all of them as most were shot at their studios & in LA.

Please click on the link below.

The message is what matters!

“On April 4th, 1968 at 7:05 p.m. Central Time, Dr. King’s life was cut tragically short.  50 years later a need for his dream to be fulfilled is far greater than ever.  This is precisely why, the dream still lives.

Please create and post your own Dream Still Lives video with #DreamStillLives.  Spread love...spread hope.

The 60th Annual Grammy Awards 2018

The Grammys are back in New York City !!!!!

The 60th Annual Grammy Awards ceremony was held on January 28, 2018. The CBS network broadcast the show live from Madison Square Garden in New York City.[2] It was the first time since 2003 that the ceremony was held outside Los Angeles (where the Staples Center had been the home of the Grammys since 2004). James Corden returned as host.[3]

The ceremony recognizes the best recordings, compositions and artists of the eligibility year, which ran from October 1, 2016 to September 30, 2017. The nominations were announced on November 28, 2017. The "pre-telecast" ceremony (officially named The Premiere Ceremony) was be held on the same day prior to the main ceremony.

I was the Department Supervisor for Glam (25 assistants) so it was a 3 ring Circus getting Lady Gaga's backup singers ready along with Daddy Yankee, Rihanna, SZA & Despacito  but I LOVED every minute of it :)

I truly hope the Grammys come back to  NYC!!!

Elton John Tribute "I'm Still Standing"

The day after the Grammys, while all the stars are still in town ... Lets do another show !!!

That Monday Lady Gaga had to do her pre tape for Elton as she had to catch a plane to London at 8:00pm so she was gorgeous as ever and professional. She wanted all her strings and back up dancers in clean nude colors as she was in all white looking angelic singing one of Elton's famous songs.

The next day was jammed packed with all stars on deck to pay tribute to Elton John by singing one of their favorite songs.

My favorite was Ed Sheeran NAILING one of Elton's songs (I don't want to give it away as it airs next month)

Just to name a few artists... there was Miley Cyrus, Miranda Lambert, Kesha, John Legend, and Little Big Town, among others.

It was a beautiful tribute to a real icon Sir Elton John.

Andrew Lloyd Webber.. "Jesus Christ Super Star"

Andrew Lloyd Webber is arguably the most successful composer of our time. He is best known for stage and film adaptations of his musicals Jesus Christ Superstar (1973), Cats (1994), Evita (1996), and The Phantom of the Opera (2004).

He was born on March 22, 1948, in South Kensington in London, England, the first of two sons of William Lloyd Webber, an organist and composer. His mother, Jean Johnstone, was a pianist and violinist. Young Andrew Lloyd Webber learned to play various musical instruments at home and began composing at an early age. He continued his music studies at Westminster School, where his father was an organist. At the age of 9, young Andrew was able to play the organ and assisted his father during performances. In 1964 he went to Oxford University as a Queens Scholar of history.

In 1965 he met lyricist Tim Rice and dropped out of school to compose musicals and pop songs. In 1968 he had his first success with the West End production of 'Joseph and the Amasing Techicolor Dreamcoat'. From the 1960s to 2000s Lloyd Webber has been constantly updating his style as an eclectic blend of musical genres ranging from classical to rock, pop, and jazz, and with inclusion of electro-acoustic music and choral-like numbers in his musicals.

It was an honor to work with Andrew all week promoting Jesus Christ Super Star airing LIVE on NBC on Easter Sunday.

He had Glenn Close with him taking about her play with him "Sunset Boulevard"

The next day it was all about John Legend!!! he will be singing most if not all of the songs.

Truly magical week!
